He said: “People come out and say ‘Ah, it’s not necessary for them to have those players in that division’. But it’s not just the division that matters at Rangers, it’s the fact that you have 45,000 people coming to watch something on a football pitch…they are still losing money. But when you make a decision to be involved at Rangers, there is no common sense to it. The financial bit of Rangers Football Club and common sense don’t often go together.”

Tom English’s comment

Why not? What makes Rangers so different that financial common sense has no place at Ibrox? Smith’s analysis was plucked from the David Murray era; freakonomics born of hubris. No common sense? He’s right, there hasn’t been. That’s not to say there shouldn’t be or that there can’t be. There must be. It’s just as well that Wallace has arrived and seems determined to cut costs. Somebody had to shake the club out of its economic time warp and bring certain people to their senses.
==============================================================

I think the above goes a long way to explaining what happened to Rangers and what could happen again. I think it may also explain why they are not paying the fees required to bring the targets in. They simply don’t have the money to.

Only this time it’s more difficult to get credit, either from a bank or from another club. “Somebody had to shake the club out of its economic time warp and bring certain people to their senses.” Or stop giving them credit they can’t afford.

Two wrongs and a right
“Enormous amounts of money have been pumped into the club account by King and a number of his allies and it’s estimated that so far, including cash spent on shares and in repaying Mike Ashley’s £5m loan, the running total stands close to £15m.”

Can we just clear this “pumped into the club” thing up as well. The money for shares did not go to the club, it was private purchase and not a club issue. The money went to the seller.

The rest of the money, including the money to repay Ashley is loans. They can call them “soft loans” if they want but it is still loans which will have to be repaid. They could well be repaid as shares, but all that will mean is that the money from any share issue has already been spent and will not be new money going into the club.

Two wrongs and a right
From Keith Jackson’s piece

“Since bursting his way into the boardroom to liberate his football club from a long line of charlatans …”

I’m assuming there was a charger involved, almost certainly white and probably rampant.

There’s also the small matter of a cup semi-final against Hibs and the potential for a final place against Ross County or Celtic.

One would have though that St Johnstone would fancy that cup final spot and with their semi-being scheduled for 30th January selling the player, particularly for less than they consider him to be worth, would seem a bit strange.

They appear to be a well run club and the real chance of another cup final and a bit of silverware to go with their recent Scottish cup must appeal to the board and the support.

Keep bringing it in and keep the fans coming.

Apologies for the double negative in my last, it should have read.

“I assume Rangers supporters don’t understand what a bank facility is because neither their club, nor the PLC which owns it has one.”

Something must be up.Getting really desperate now…================================

He / She is totally clueless.

“With the debt owed to Co-Op Bank …”

Celtic had net cash at bank of almost £18m at the end of June 2017. That’s before competing in the CL group stages in the 2017/2018 season. The important point being that figure is “net of bank borrowings”. Celtic bank with the Co-operative bank.

Depending on player trading, stadium improvements etc I would expect the net cash figure to be higher at the end of June this year.

This stuff is just another Rangers’ supporters myth, which tells you all you need to know about the blogger.

I assume Rangers supporters don’t understand what a bank facility is because neither their club, nor the PLC which owns it doesn’t have one.

They believe a loan is an overdraft for goodness sake.

When I read things on the Scottish Football Monitor I do it within the context of their being some link to football, unless it is obviously not. That is why I believed that BIGBOAB1916’s comment related in some way to football in the 21st century and my surprise at him comparing it to the civil rights struggle.

It would appear he was not and his comment was comparing the treatment of Catholics  in modern Scotland to the struggle in the USA for equal rights. Not really a debate I want to get involved in, well not here.

And remind them the 1690 route has long gone and anyone can travel at the front of the bus.

Can I work on the basis that you are not comparing Scottish football in the 21st century to Rosa Parks and that your bus analogy relates to something else.

I really hope so.

New Club Chester had membership transferred.
============================================

As I and others have said, you cannot transfer something from one entity to itself, it makes no sense.

If there is a transfer there have to be two entities involved, an old club and a new club.
