I note the new Director of Football down Govan way …

Comment on Time for Scots Government to Take Bull by the Horns by wottpi.

I note the new Director of Football down Govan way previously headed up the Man City Academy that was fined by the Premier League £300k in May for tapping up young academy players and had also previously been reported to Fifa for ‘trafficking’ a young player in 2016.
Clearly not one who respects the rules that apply to others. He will fit right in at Ibrox.
Do DoF’s have to pass the fit and proper sniff test. 🙂

Over on JJ’s site a poster (The Man) reminds us of a key part of the evidence in relation to the operation of the tax avoidance schemes.

If there was nothing to fear, not only did Rangers not present documentation and side letters to the footballing authorities, as questioned by Duncan Fraser, the evidence available is that they apparently denied these side letters actually existed when questioned by the HMRC.

The whole matter goes far beyond a simple administrative error or differences in interpretation of tax laws and footballing rules.

This was a dishonest undertaking from day one and the subterfuge in relation to side letters and the likes continued for many years despite knowing investigators were on the case.

Was drafting something similar last night but didn’t post.

I recall recently Les Gray, the Chariman of Hamilton, waxing lyrical why we needed a string T’Rangers in the league etc etc blah blah blah.

However there is never any full, open and transparent explanation why this is the perceived wisdom.

I can wholly agree with some of the arguments if Rangers/T’Rangers were bringing lots of positives to our game.

However for the last few decades, be it through the dodgy tax arrangements of SDM, the forked tongue of their current ‘chair’, the convicted tax dodger DCK and the actions of their supports along with the threats regularly issued by the likes of  Club 1872, surely one has to ask what is it exactly that others, like Gray and Killie’s ex Chair Johnston, think we need them for.

It’s not just a lack of ambition from some, it seems to be a fixed mind set that the status quo must in someway be preserved without any question whatsoever.

I’m sure the answer is cash from the TV deals, the chance of an occasional bumper crowd at a cup game and maybe flogging a player to them now and again,  so if that is all it takes – please just come out and say so and admit they could kill your granny and you would just turn a blind eye.

Is it not fair to say that the JJ emails show the whole board decisions as
Doncaster – No appeal – no reason given
Johnston – No appeal – no reason given but was to be discussed at next board meeting.
Thompson – No appeal – wants to draw a line under it.
Fraser – No appeal (has concerns over level of punishment etc) but decision appears to be purely based on the technicalities of what they would be appealing on.
Topping – No appeal (has concerns over level of punishment etc) but appears to be going with the majority of the four above.
Reilly – No disclosure to date of what his feedback was. However clearly concerned over the whole process, lack of time etc etc.

Given that as many as three members were possibly concerned over the how the whole process was handled and that the final tax position is now known it is hard to imagine why a review of the whole affair is not merited.

To Comply or not to Comply ?

There is nothing mysterious or unusual about the situation.

In the same way a single parent out of work and desperate to feed their kids turns to loan sharks, T’Rangers (and Rangers before them)  have always needed additional funding in the attempt to be Billy Big Baws.
SDM was desperate when he took the BoS cash and needed EBTs.
Whyte needed the Ticketus cash
Green needed Ashley’s input in terms of a retail deal and to give the share issue some gravitas and that deal has just spilled on to the King regime.

The club/s from Ibrox cannot live within its means because they have, for decades, been a hot pit of financial and corporate mismanagement.

Ashley’s current attempt to pin them to the wall is just a long line of desperate and ill chosen  moves by the men in the Blue Room.

Simples.

We know that a potential financial catastrophe is most likely around the corner and either they will continue to scrape through, season after season by the skin of their teeth or the can being kicked down the road will finally find a dead end.

To Comply or not to Comply ?
If I recall correctly when accusations have been made, or actions sought, against Rangers/T’Rangers the mantra from the SMSM and the Blue Room has been that no-one has an appetite for the fight or that only one or two trouble makers are stirring things up, so can the rest of us not just accept the situation and ‘Move On’.

Why therefore is there an apparent desire to continue the hounding of Maclennan when no-one else in the game has any any problems with his appointment?

Like having a go at referees, all decent fans want is a bit on consistency.

Therefore you either shut the feck up when told  or you accept the right for people to dig deep and continue digging, across a number of issues, until we get an answer as to where potential corruption and wrong doing occurs.

To Comply or not to Comply ?
If I recall correctly a previous SPL chairman held that position while also being the CEO of a major bookmakers.

A business that makes some of its monies from the outcome of football matches.

One could easily say there was a ‘potential’ conflict of interest with someone holding power within the footballing authorities and the gambling industry at the same time.

Similarly the same period saw the rise in the involvement of the gambling industry within football as a whole. Was this purely coincidental or a ploy by the gambling industry as a whole  to have key placement in positions of power within football to help open doors?

Indeed, a certain bookmaker sponsored the SFA’s Scottish Cup, so well done to them,  but would they have had equal or lesser opportunity to provide sponsorship and gain from the marketing and publicity aspects had certain people not been in the same office building.

The above is of course conspiracy nonsense but if folks are arguing ‘conflict of interest’ means ‘conflict of interest’ then I am sure we could all rack our brains to come up with some guff that the Gullibillies and squirrel catchers will swallow.

To Comply or not to Comply ?
In one corner we have Mike Ashley a successful billionaire business man who will have a team who deals with rights and retails contracts on a daily basis.

My guess is he wins more court cases, including the more important ones, than he losses.

In the other corner we have a magnificently coiffured accountant with varying success in business and a convicted tax dodger who doesn’t seem to do overly well in important court cases against him.

I know who Paddy Power would be offering the longer odds on.

Regardless of how this one pans out it is yet another cock up in terms of the operations of the Blue Room.

Maybe the club from Ibrox are under more scrutiny but can there be another club in Scotland where the admin and legal operations appear to be a total shambles?

They are either really desperate or completely incompetent.

Given the squirrels  being launched regarding Murdoch MacLennan would anyone really trust the opinions of the Ibrox board in relation to corporate governance or, lord forbid, them proposing an alternative SPFL chairman?

I admire individuality and the right to be different as much as the next person  but can anyone really say that being so out of step with others and reality, in so many areas, is really that healthy?

A coloured top is just a coloured top in the same way the ”N’ word is just a jumble of letters from the alphabet.
When used by certain people in certain ways it just puts us all backwards to the centuries of old.
Some people down Ibrox way are still stuck in the past and willing to exploit others of a like mind as it really is all they have left.
No vision, no dignity, no scruples, no future.
