Comment on JPP: Perverting Justice? by Darkbeforedawn.

I just checked and it was Brian Kennedy who was the other party member. He wasn’t a fan and I think would have looked to get us on a steady footing.

Its a good point CO, and I have no doubt the fan base would have fell by 10 or 15k but even then that would still have been healthy gates. I think the squad that was left was more than capable of working up the leagues under the right manager (ie not checkbook mccoist) and probably not taken much longer than we did. I would far rather have watched boys like Murdoch (starring for Livi), McKay and the likes than the Blacks and Sandazas we ended up with and I recon a lot of fans would have got behind that. If it was sold the right way – ‘pain today for gain tomorrow’, especially with the painful memories at the time still fresh then there would have been a large enough number of fans behind it to make it work. I have no doubt Kennedy would have been hated at the time, but would have been looked upon very fondly in time.

As far as Brian Kennedy is concerned I agree he would not be what the average bear would have wanted, but dare I say he is what we needed? Someone who is not emotionally invested and who would make us live within our means. I would not have expected the same soundbites out of him as the chancers who followed. We would have been made to live within our means, and the fans told we should just be glad we still have a football team to support. How different things could have looked today…

That said, I don’t think we can look to blame the SFA for what has happened to Rangers. Sadly I have to admit the only person to blame for what happened to Rangers is Rangers.

Do you think the SFA were of the same view as many fans, many in the media, that Rangers were simply too big to fail, that someone would step in and it just wouldn't be allowed to happen?

I think there was definitely an element of that but with the SFA with what went before and came after I think it’s more a fact they burry their heads in the sand and put of dealing with anything until they absolutely have to. They are a shambles of an organisation from top down. Even with the continuation had they been upfront and said they were using the Italian model where at least four of their clubs had went bankrupt and started again with history attached, there might not be this same outrage now. But they didn’t – they just hoped by saying nothing everyone would just forget about it and move on.

Coming late to the discussion on the best format for Scottish football, I agree that a restructuring of the leagues is the way we should be going. If ever we can get away from the Old Firm cash cow of 4 televised games a season, I would like to see us move to a 20 team Scottish Premiership, and a 20 team Championship. The bottom 2 teams from the PL would be relegated and the top 2 in the championship would be promoted. Third bottom would go into play offs with 3rd,4th and 5th in the championship. Beneath the two professional leagues would be the regional leagues where play offs would take place every year between the two lowest professional clubs, and the winners of each of the regional leagues.

I would love to see the rule introduced that a starting 11 must contain at least 5 home grown and club developed players but I worry that will never be possible when the lower leagues in England can poach our best players to rot in the reserves. Until the bubble bursts in the EPL I can't see our national game improving enough sadly.

How can we nurture the required quality, when the only systems available are as above?…Shooting the puppet is for nought, without first shooting the puppeteer.

It is beyond doubt a failed system and not fit for purpose.

100% agree with you CO. I don't think you will find fans of a single team in Scotland who would disagree that the referee system in Scotland is broken and not fit for purpose.

CO, I am just not convinced we have the quality of referees required for the game. It may be the training, or the nepotism that means referee's are in positions because of who their family are. But regardless, I know the state of refereeing the world over is poor, but the ineptitude in Scotland is beyond anything I've seen anywhere else. I know people will argue that refereeing 'evens itself out' over a season, and whilst I would agree to an extent (there have probably on reflection been an equal number of decisions gone against my team as has gone for them this season) but that doesn't take away from how many games have been adversely impacted by these bad decisions.

Another week of dreadful refereeing performances I see! An incredible four penalties in one game, and the most obvious stone wall penalty is the only one Dallas doesn't give smiley. First one was a penalty, second was a dive, third was a foul outside the box, fourth was a dive outside the box! How a referee can get so many big decisions wrong is embarassing. This was off the back of the Cowdenbeath game where Rangers should have been awarded two penalties yet the referree gives a dodgy penalty to Cowdenbeath! And how Celtic never got a penalty for the foul on Eduardo is also beyond me. So in those three games the men in black managed to one of 9 big decisions correct! I would say 4 of those wrong decisions wen't Rangers way, 4 went against us so I don't agree with the conspiracy theories, jut a sheer ineptitude yet again of our refs in Scotland, and the lack of accountability! It's time for foreign referees.

At the very least, the SFA should,

(a),     Forward an open public apology to Aberdeen FC, for over-stepping their authority,  offering an "independent", investigation into how they got it so wrong. Or…

    (b)     Explain to Celtic FC how and when, the new "Aberdeen rule", came into place (for a trial period only). but had reverted back to the old rule 20 minutes before the Glasgow Derby.

For me its (b) everyday of the week. I was absolutely astonished that he was not retrospectively sent off. I personally think even he would have looked back on this and realised he made a mistake, not once but three times! But in order to save face he just dismissed it as ‘not warrant of a booking’. Which will lead to open season as every player will now think they can get away with murder. Also only in Scotland would a rule exist that as long as the referee ‘saw’ the incident, a separate panel of judges can’t overrule the decision?? A contentious decision like that should be put to a panel of 3 neutral judges whether the referee sees it or not.
